WHAT do you think we should read next?

As discussed at tonight's fabulous gathering, to help pick our next read you need to:

1. post your suggestion(s)*
2. vote on a yet to be set-up poll (on this blog) based on the suggestions
3. come next wednesday where we will vote between the top three or so novels

That would be 7.00 pm, October 21. This will be a quickie---without any pre-reading attached. Be excited.

*A note on suggestions: try to pick widely-likable books that we hopefully haven't read. And if you pick it, be ready to convince us to read it.

one last thought: Wow. Loved the discussion tonight--beautiful contributions and insights.

  2. Three random books that pique Josh's interest:
    (1) Tinkers, Paul Harding
    (2) The Trial, Franz Kafka
    (3) The Idiot, Dostoevsky

These may be readily discarded by those who actually know something about literature.

  4. Perhaps this is a little too out-there, but I'm going to suggest a Faulkner novel, The Sound in the Fury, or Go Down Moses.

  5. Ahhh...I know I said I'd get a poll up tonight, but I just feel like there is a perfect book out there for us and I haven't thought of it yet. So. Here are my temporary book suggestions (until I discover said perfect book tomorrow):
    1. Something by Cormac Mcarthy. I've always kind of wanted to read The Road. Does anyone know anything about it?
    2. Peace Like a River by Leif Engel (highly recommended by my...hometeacher)
    3. The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion I saw this as a play and it was transcendental.
    4. The Turn of the Screw by Henry James (oh I love this book...it's the only one I'm recommending that I've read...but reading it was my #1 scariest experience.

PROMISE. there will be something to vote on tomorrow.
